Meet Us

Our Story

We started dancing together in 2014. In spring of 2015, we had an idea to start a business together, and so in September we started teaching as Mantra Belly Dance.

We usually co-teach our classes. Each of us offers a different approach and brings something unique to the classroom.

During our classes, you will often hear us complete each other’s sentences. One of us explains the move while the other one watches everyone and offers adjustments.

We focus on technique. Sometimes it is back to the basics, like posture, shimmy, and floreos. Sometimes, we take 25 minutes to explain one move, if that’s what it takes to break it down. Other times, we incorporate drills and combinations to help build muscle memory. Always, we dance and have fun.

We hope you join us in class and see how much joy this dance can bring to your life.

Two teachers.

Two different personalities.

One common characteristic: Attention to detail.

Have you ever watched a dancer or musician express themselves creatively through improvisation? Have you wanted to move to a piece of music, but hesitated because you weren’t sure what to do?

Suzy has loved both dance and music since she was a little girl, but she was never quite able to capture that creative, improvisational expression. Then she met Jenn Kasper of Tandava Tribal and discovered American Tribal Style® belly dance. This dance form provided the structure (a vocabulary of dance moves and formations) that she could combine in endless combinations to express herself. As an added bonus, she discovered a sisterhood with fellow dancers through the synergy of the group improvisational format. In contrast, breaking down the moves themselves appeal to her analytical brain. If you ask her about which muscles drive a movement her face will light up as she gives you a detailed (and possibly lengthy) explanation!

Let American Tribal Style Belly Dance fill your life with creativity and sisterhood. Come to Suzy’s class to explore your creative side, delve into a geeky analysis of your shimmy, and connect with yourself and other women.

Suzy also dances with Jamillah, a trio of science nerds who share a mutual passion for ATS®.

Suzy is a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio.  In August of 2014, she earned her ATS® General Skills and Teacher Training certifications, and she re-certified in March 2017.

She also completed Technique for Teachers Training.

Allow the dance to find you.

Agnieszka did.

Do you find yourself constantly moving your feet every time you hear your favorite piece of music? Do you embarrass your significant other every time you drag them to the dance floor against their wishes? Do you love to dance but think you are too old?

That used to be Agnieszka until she came across American Tribal Style® belly dance

in a Naperville yoga studio. She decided to give it a try and fell in love with it after only a few lessons with Fabiana of Shimmy by Fire. She knew this was the perfect dance form for her.

Let American Tribal Style® belly dance fill your life with joy, too! It is a gentle, non-impact form of exercise that can be enjoyed at any age. Come to Agnieszka’s class to build your confidence, get inspired and connected with other women, and to have fun.

Agnieszka also dances with Amaranth.
In January of 2015, she earned her ATS® General Skills certification. In October of 2017, she completed her ATS® Teacher Training.

In April of 2019, she completed Tamarind Tribal Transformations®  Teaching Certification.

Her other passions are yoga and photography.
